Mt. Fuji Photography Guide

Capture Mt. Fuji from our accommodation in its most beautiful form. Here are some tips to help you take the perfect photo to remember your trip.

When’s the Best Time for a Shot?

Mt. Fuji changes its appearance dramatically depending on the time of day and season. Discover its many faces and find your perfect moment.

Evening (Right After Check-In)

In the evening just after check-in, the slopes of Mt. Fuji glow orange as the sun sets, creating a magical atmosphere.

[Photography Tip] To avoid backlighting, try shooting from a slight angle for a more dimensional look of Mt. Fuji.

Night

A quiet night when Mt. Fuji appears as a silhouette. In the open skies of the Yamanakako area, you can enjoy a star-filled sky without interference from city lights. Constellations rarely seen in urban areas light up the night sky, accompanied by the warmth of a campfire.

[Photography Tip] Use your smartphone’s "Night Mode" or "Night Portrait" function. Placing the phone on a stable surface helps reduce blurring.

Morning

Clear mornings with few clouds and crisp air are perfect for photography. Brew a cup of coffee with the in-room coffee maker and enjoy the morning view of Mt. Fuji.

[Photography Tip] Turn on the "HDR" function to naturally balance light and shadow.

Smartphone Photography Tips

Even beginners can take beautiful photos of Mt. Fuji with their smartphones. Here are some key tips to help you get started.

  • Avoid Backlighting
In the early morning or evening, be mindful of backlighting. Simply changing your shooting angle can bring out Mt. Fuji’s true colors beautifully.
  • Turn On the Grid Lines
It helps you keep the horizon straight and makes it easier to center Mt. Fuji in your shot.
  • Adjust Exposure by Tapping
Tap on Mt. Fuji to adjust the brightness. This helps prevent overexposure and underexposure.
  • Go Easy on Filters
Let the natural colors shine. Keep it natural when shooting—editing can come later.

When to Aim for Red Fuji, Crimson Fuji, or Diamond Fuji?

Red Fuji

A phenomenon visible during late summer to early autumn (August to September) in the limited early morning hours. The snow-free slopes of Mt. Fuji are dyed red by the rising sun.

Crimson Fuji

A phenomenon occurring in winter (December to February) where the snow-covered Mt. Fuji glows crimson in the morning sun. The clear air makes it especially beautiful.

Diamond Fuji

You can see the "Diamond Fuji," where the sunset aligns perfectly with the summit of Mt. Fuji, from Yamanakako in November and February.
At Vision Glamping Resort Yamanakako, there are days when you can view this phenomenon right from the property.
Since the sunset time is early, we recommend using the early check-in option (paid) to catch this moment.

There are also rare, once-in-a-lifetime encounters with Mt. Fuji created by the day’s weather, such as the "Sea of Clouds Fuji" and "Umbrella Cloud Fuji."
Be sure to capture these moments with your smartphone.
